History and Characteristics

* Romanian origin: It was born on Mamaia Beach, Romania, in 2007. It became famous for its sets that lasted until dawn (and beyond), with DJs playing on a sandy beach facing the Black Sea. Its 24-hour-plus sessions have been legendary.

*  Rominimal’ approach: The festival was the perfect playground for the development of the “rominimal” sound, a subgenre of minimal techno led by Romanian artists such as Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu and Raresh (often known as the ‘Romanian trio’).

* Unique atmosphere: What sets it apart is its atmosphere. The outdoor parties, sunrises, and dedication of the attendees make it an experience unlike any other festival. It is a place for true music lovers, not just for partying.

Artists and Past Editions

The Sunwaves lineup has always featured the best of minimal, tech-house, and techno. Although it focuses on the Romanian scene, it has always attracted big international names.

* Regular artists: The ‘Romanian trio’ (Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Raresh) are pillars of the festival. Other artists who regularly perform include Dubfire, Ricardo Villalobos, Loco Dice, Joseph Capriati, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Marco Carola and many others.

* Editions: The festival holds two editions per year: one in spring and one in summer. Each edition is numbered, so over the years there have been editions numbered 30, 31, 32, etc. Starting in 2024, the festival expanded its horizons with a second venue in Spain.

Sunwaves 2025 Roquetas de Mar - Almeria

The year 2025 marks an important turning point for the festival.

* Spanish edition: The Spanish venue has gained prominence. Sunwaves has announced that its autumn 2025 edition (SW36) will be held in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, from 4 to 8 September.

* New features: Ibiza Bpm Radio Stage, which will be the official radio station for the festival and will feature our beloved Paul Ross on Saturday 6 September at 8 p.m.

 * Artists: As of today, the artists confirmed for the 2025 editions have already been announced and, as usual, full  of energy, good waves, the sun shining and the amazing beach  will maintain its essence with both renowned artists and emerging talents from the underground scene.
