Flames have burned down much of the iconic structure in Boom, Belgium. The organization has not yet confirmed whether the event, which was expected to attract thousands of people on Friday, will be able to take place.

Tragedy has struck at the heart of one of the world's largest electronic music festivals. The main stage at Tomorrowland, located in the town of Boom, Belgium, suffered a serious fire on Wednesday afternoon, just 48 hours before the start of its eagerly awaited 2025 edition.

The fire was reported by local police shortly after 6:00 p.m. Although emergency services managed to extinguish it by 7:30 p.m., initial images and statements confirm that most of the elaborate stage decoration has been destroyed. “We still don't know how the fire started. Emergency services are working on it and will keep us informed,” said Debby Wilmsen, the festival's press officer, in statements reported by local media such as De Standaard.

At the time of the incident, around 1,000 workers were on site finalizing preparations for the start of the festival, scheduled for Friday, July 18. Fortunately, according to preliminary reports, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.

Uncertainty about the future of the festival is at its peak. The organizers have not announced whether the event will go ahead, be postponed, or be canceled.

Tomorrowland was scheduled to take place over two consecutive weekends, bringing together around 70,000 people each day around its main stage. This year's theme was ‘The World of Orbyz’ and, although its dimensions had not been revealed, last year's structure was 160 meters wide, giving an idea of the magnitude of the construction affected.

As a precautionary measure, local authorities asked residents of the neighboring municipality of Rumst to close “windows, doors, and ventilation systems” due to the inconvenience caused by the dense smoke.
